M50-54: Galvin Dominates the Shamrock 8K

Joseph Galvin made this one look easy. The 52-year-old Virginia Beach local crossed in 29:52 at 6:00/mi — a pace that left the rest of the M50-54 field in his wake from the start and never let them back in. With more than four minutes separating him from second place, there was no drama at the front; Galvin simply ran his own race at a level no one else in the age group could match on the day.

Behind him, Mario Cooper of Chester and Virginia Beach's Tim Hutchins staged the real contest for silver and bronze. Cooper came in at 34:09, with Hutchins just 22 seconds back at 34:31. Scott Worthington rounded out the top five in 35:37, and Alan Mulindwa (36:07) and Alessio Fiorentino (36:13) kept things competitive through sixth place — just a six-second gap between them.

Further down, David Fuss and Samuel Musgrave both clocked 36:45 and 36:49 respectively, while the 7:51–7:53/mi cluster of Todd Tillery, Patrick Carroll, and Jason Bush made for a tight three-way battle around 11th through 13th. At the edge of the top 20, Jonathan Kilb, Mark MacLean, and Scott Spencer all finished within three seconds of each other — a fitting end to a competitive age group that brought 223 men to the Virginia Beach start line on a mild mid-March morning.
