Shamrock'n 10K: Fricano rules the F50-54 field

• Stefanie Fricano wins the F50-54 age group in 52:36 (8:28/mi), finishing 19th among all women at the halfway point and holding strong to cross as the clear champion.
• Candie Malone claims 2nd in 57:12 (9:12/mi) — a 4:36 gap back to Fricano, but a comfortable 2:40 cushion over 3rd.
• Patricia Page (59:52) and Irma Mota (1:00:25) battle for the final podium spot — separated by just 33 seconds, with Mota making up serious ground in the back half.
• 13th and 14th place are separated by less than a second: Cissi Olvera edges Lisa Colridge, 1:08:08.76 to 1:08:08.86.

On a clear, cool March morning in West Sacramento, Stefanie Fricano of Sacramento put together the most commanding performance in the F50-54 age group, crossing in 52:36 at an 8:28/mi clip. At the 5K mark she sat 19th among all women — and while she gave back a few spots in the second half, finishing 28th among women, her lead over the rest of the age group was never in serious doubt. The 45th-fastest women's split on the back half kept her well ahead of the field.

Candie Malone settled comfortably into 2nd in 57:12, running a 9:12/mi average. The real drama unfolded just behind her, where Patricia Page (59:52, 9:38/mi) and Irma Mota (1:00:25, 9:43/mi) fought for the final podium spot. Page held 3rd at the halfway mark, but Mota — sitting way back in 169th among women at 5K — came storming through the second half with the 95th-fastest women's split in that segment, moving all the way up to 127th among women by the finish. She closed to within 33 seconds of Page, but Page's earlier cushion proved just enough to hold on for bronze.

Susan Spencer rounded out the top five in 1:01:39, while Angelica Sandoval Marin (1:02:13) and Kate Vito (1:02:27) filled sixth and seventh. Further down, the race produced one of its sharpest finishes anywhere in the age group: Cissi Olvera edged Lisa Colridge for 13th by a margin of just one-tenth of a second — 1:08:08.76 to 1:08:08.86 — with both clocking the same displayed time of 1:08:08. Seventy-five women finished the F50-54 age group in total, making it a deep and competitive field all the way down the standings.
