The F80+ group at the Shamrock'n 10K was small but mighty: just two women, both in their eighties, lining up in West Sacramento on a crisp 56°F March morning to cover 10 kilometers on foot. That alone is worth pausing on.

Karen Crick, 80, from Granite Bay, led from start to finish, crossing the line in 1:37:30 at a 15:42-per-mile pace. Linda Hall, 82, of Davis, gave chase and finished 2nd in 1:40:08 — a 16:07/mi effort. The 2:38 margin between them was the full story of the race, with Crick holding her advantage across both halves.

What's worth noting is how both women ran the back half. On the 5K-to-Finish segment, Crick posted the 833rd-fastest women's split in the field and Hall the 836th — both picking off competitors ahead of them and climbing through the women's standings as the race wore on. Crick moved from 875th to 863rd among women; Hall from 895th to 881st. Neither faded. Both finished stronger than where they started, which at any age is a good race — and at 80 and 82, it's a genuinely impressive one.
