But Barnes turned up the heat in the second half, posting the 69th-fastest women's split on that segment to Benetiz's 114th — a clear catch-up that nearly worked. Barnes crossed in 50:13, just six seconds behind Benetiz's 50:07, with the places confirming Benetiz held on by the slimmest of margins.

Behind them, Justin Kajar (51:39) and Dimitri Lanteigne (58:10) rounded out the top five, while Brandon Hernandez finished 6th in 59:11. Junior Rios (1:15:30) and Vincent Vang (1:18, 1:36:18) completed the group — every one of them getting their 10K done on a crisp 56°F morning in West Sacramento.
